What I Learned in November

1) Babies are messy

When someone in a house with a baby yells, "oh shit!", they might mean it literally :-(

2) How to unclog old kitchen pipes

If you live in an older home and clog your kitchen sink pipes, try pouring one cup of vinegar down the drain. Let it sit for a minute, then run hot water for one minute down the clogged drain. After that, use a plunger to pump the sink drain, preferably on the unclogged side if you have a two-sided sink.

3) Dr. Bronner's Sal Suds is the bomb!

It has to be for me to be willing to publicly use such a corny phrase. I see DR. BRONNER'S products all over blogs these days, and now I know why...because it really works! I've been using it to do dishes and am very happy with the results. You can also use it as an all-purpose cleaner. A little goes a long way, and it doesn't contain any harsh chemicals.

  1. LOL - well I am now on the other end of parenting and we are adjusting to being empty nesters, so it's been quite awhile since we have had the literal translation around here! Love the Vinegar trick... it's amazing how it (usually) really does work and I love that it's natural... and speaking of natural - I will have to check out that cleaner... I've been seeing the name all over the interwebs as well! Thanks for the positive review of it!

  2. We've been fighting cloggy drains for the past week. I am going to try your vinegar trick! My oldest daughter uses coconut oil in the bath tub and it is really doing a number on our pipes. Ughh.

Babies are messy aren't they! lol. Good thing they are sooo cute. : )
    Happy december.

    1. It's so funny you should say that Leslie. One late sleepless night when I was absolutely exhausted, I looked down at my baby and thought, "God is brilliant making babies so cute".

  6. I was told once that using cold water on a clogged sink works better than hot water. I'll have to try Sal's Suds, I've never seen it before. My boyfriend has a serious addiction to bleach and I've been trying to get him to use non-toxic chemicals for cleaning. Will get him a bottle and one for myself, thanks for the tip :)

  7. I've heard a lot about vinegar as a corrective for clogged drains. It's quite enlivening that a lot of the cures for our household problems are just around the house. Nice save there. However, you shouldn't hesitate to seek for added help should those cures reach their limits. Depending on scenarios, of course. Thanks for sharing that! All the best!
