In the time we've lived in our home I've had a love/hate relationship with our kitchen. We purchased the house newly renovated, which as a positive meant we had all new finishings, but on the negative side meant I didn't get to choose any of the finishings. This posed a dilemma in the kitchen, which was finished in a style far from my own. I personally had always dreamt of a classic white kitchen, with no beige to be seen anywhere. As you can see our kitchen is swimming in a sea of beige. Since re-renovating the kitchen was absolutely out of the question, I had to make the best of what I had, and learn to appreciate the existing kitchen.
Things are pretty much done in the room except I think I should add some window treatments. What do you think? I'm not sure of what kind to add, but I feel they would help ground the room and break up some of the monotony.

I know you don't like the color of your cabinets, but I LOVE the style of them. They are so simple (shaker style) and can easily be painted. Have you looked into that option? And, I really like the color on your walls. I think some simple relaxed roman shades would look nice as treatments, it might help to soften the horizontal lines from the windows, cabinets, dishwasher, etc.???
ReplyDeleteYou're kitchen is so organized! You can always change the drawer pulls to the ones you like (they are not expensive). I'm not sure how you feel about this, but just like Fran said, you can also paint the cabinets as well. Shaker style cabinets look beautiful when they are painted. Even if you paint just the upper, that might brighten up the room by a lot. For the window treatments, it's a great place to add some textures as well as a bit of color :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your suggestions. I have thought about painting them, unfortunately the hubs is vehemently against it, and loves them as they are. I might strike up my let's paint the cabinets campaign again and see where it gets me this time.

I personally like linen roman shades for their relaxing feeling. Ikat print in subtle colors might add nice textures to the room, too :)
DeleteIf those are Ikea ( they look like ours and we did Ikea) you could save up and replace the doors and side panels with one of their white options:). It's super easy to do yourself. They just snap on basically.
ReplyDeleteI think I have the same cabinets: Wolf Classic, Darthmouth style, crimson stain. The color wouldn't have been my first choice but I've gotten use to it. I love shaker style doors.
